Licensure regulations outside massachusetts

Educator licensure programs at Lesley are state approved and recognized by the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC). This enables Lesley graduates approved for educator licensure in Massachusetts to apply for comparable positions in 48 other states.

Please keep in mind that becoming licensed in another state is not automatic. Each state may have additional requirements, including testing, courses, workshops, or other assessments.

NASDTEC is the organization that works closely with member states and jurisdictions to bring you up-to-date certification requirements, resources, and statistical data. The NASDTEC Interstate Agreement 2005-2010 for reciprocity facilitates the movement of educators among the member states and jurisdictions that have signed the Agreement.  If you completed an approved teacher education program and/or hold a valid teacher's certificate or license in one state and seek certification in another member state, you will generally be issued a temporary license for a period of one to two years, during which time you must complete any additional requirements necessary for that state.  You can investigate the licensure requirements for each state you hope to become licensed in by looking at the individual websites for the jurisdictions and states who have signed the reciprocity agreement.

Other states frequently require a verification of your educator licensure program. If you graduated from a Lesley University educator licensure program and you need a Verification Form (FORM V) filled out from another state, please send the form to the Certification Office, 29 Everett St, Cambridge, MA 02138-2790. Remember to include your contact information (address, phone, email) as well as a cover sheet explaining where you want the form to be sent.

Additional information on certification in member states and jurisdictions is available at the NASDTEC Knowledgebase website. You will be required to enter a user name and password to access a variety of information. Please email the Certification Office at cert_off@lesley.edu to request the Lesley user name and password.
